Rocky Mountain – Feb 2011 – N Ireland

Hi Again everyone.

This was a reasonably short walk but a most enjoyable one. The day itself was a bit cold and foggy but a total of 13 Armagh Ramblers turned up to take on the challenge.

We started at a track which is the entrance to Rourk’s Park and followed the track to a stile, then continued up the hill alongside the dry stone wall.

Some of the scenery is just breathtaking (some of the steep climbs can be breathtaking too) BUT NOT FOR US.

Having a wall to follow for a good bit of the walk is extreemly helpful, especially when it’s foggy – and it was on this day.

Now come on – everyone needs a break now and again – even the rufty tufties – It was a bit cold and damp but we continued on –

YEP – we continued on to the top of Rocky Mountain – (that’s me on the far left – not bad eh) – Then the rain started as we made our descent and it rained all the way back to the car park.

But as you can see – it’s not just a hill – it is not called Rocky Mountain for nothing – but it makes the walk so much more fun. When the fog comes down in the Mournes – you better hope that you have your trusty map and compass with you – Iknow – I’m speaking from experience (I got lost for about half an hour – ONLY ONCE)

I hope you like the short selection of photos from this walk – click on the “Rocky Mountain” link below for all the photos.
